Clark Kent, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, and now Joey in the red cape! The superhero pantheon is welcoming a brand face, thanks to Melissa Brown’s inspiring children’s book, “The Ups and Downs of a Very Special Superhero.”

The book tells the story of Joey, a boy with Down Syndrome who comes to see that his unique characteristics are really his super powers. Even cooler? Melissa, the author, is the sister of Josh, a CIS participant and the real-life superhero who inspired the book.

The book teaches readers of all ages what Down Syndrome is, and is a moving testament to the love between a sister and a brother. Melissa wrote it in the hopes that all who read it would walk away inspired, and with a deeper understanding of Down Syndrome and the people who have it.
