School-To-Work  Transition

CIS’s School-to-Work Transition programs work collaboratively with schools, universities, vocational rehabilitation and workforce development agencies, employers, and community partners. Serving youth with disabilities ages 16-24, we help facilitate a seamless transition from school to employment.

CIS’s School-to-Work Transition programs connect students with disabilities to real-world work experience through supportive and engaging internships at a variety of local businesses and organizations. Through a mix of classroom-based work and on-site work experience, students with disabilities gain the skills they need for a successful transition from school to employment.

CIS’s School-to-Work Transition programs connect students with disabilities to real-world work experience through supportive and engaging internships at a variety of local businesses and organizations. Services and special projects include:

Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)

Vocational Rehabilitation programs in both Pennsylvania and Delaware provideopportunities for students with disabilities through age 22.

Project SEARCH

A unique workplace immersion program that combines classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands on job training. CIS provides Job Skills Trainers and Job Developers for several SEARCH programs, supports participants in learning marketable job skills and creates connections to competitive employment opportunities after graduating from the program.

Project Career Launch (PCL)

CIS is collaborating with Transition Pathways of the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute Life Course Outcomes Program and the School District of Philadelphia-Hill-Freedman World Academy to create more opportunities for youth on the autism spectrum. Project Career Launch at Drexel University is a school-to-work transition program to prepare young adults on the autism spectrum for career-focused employment. The program adopts the framework and program principles of The Learning Academy at the University of Southern Florida. Participants engage in self-discovery and career exploration through peer mentoring, community-based learning and internships. Through an expanded partnership with the Community College of Philadelphia students may also have the opportunity to take dual enrollment coursework and participate in further education. Upon program completion, students will either be employed or connected to further training/education relating to their personal career plan.

IEP Services

Partnering with districts, schools, and educators, CIS works collaboratively with the IEP team to provide employment experiences for high school students with disabilities. Students move from the classroom to the community as they explore careers with the goal of transitioning seamlessly to competitive employment. CIS connects students to follow along services to ensure success post-graduation, and has helped hundreds of students experience a successful transition.
