“Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh MY!” That’s what our participant Tarik has been saying since starting his job at the Philadelphia Zoo this summer, where he’s found a great position and a supportive community of co-workers.
Even neater? Tarik is a graduate of Project SEARCH, our school-to-work transition program that helps high school students with disabilities in Philadelphia prepare for the working world. The program focuses on interview prep, resume building, and key skills that have helped students like Tarik land jobs throughout the city.
At the zoo, Tarik is responsible for tasks like checking customers in and out, and directing them around the park. His favorite duty? Running the cash register and getting to see the animals during his breaks! Tarik’s positive attitude has led to great interactions with coworkers, and Katrina Shuptar, one of our Employment Trainers, shared this about Tarik’s progress: “I had a conversation with his manager, Laura, who complimented the great job he’s been doing.”
A job well done indeed! As we continue our celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re happy to see Tarik in a sustaining job with a great local employer. Keep up the excellent work!
