From Summer Job to  Full time

Tyniyah Transforms Summer Job into Full-Time Position

It’s a special thing when you’re able to align your passion with your job, and that’s just what Tyniyah found in her position as a Summer Aide at the Episcopal Community Services (ECS) Summer Camp. What’s more, she did such a great job that she went on to receive and accept a formal offer to stay on at Episcopal as a permanent employee!

Tyniyah’s path to this job is a good emblem of how our Transition Team helps high school students make a successful transition into employment. We first met Tyniyah through one of our School-to-Work Transition programs run in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia. Tyniyah attended the Career and Technical Education Program at Mastbaum High School, and earned money on weekends and in the summer while working as a nanny. As graduation approached, the CIS Transition Team helped her to define her employment goals and pursue a job where she could continue working with kids. She applied to the Summer Aide position with ECS, and was thrilled to learn she got the job.

Tyniyah’s now one year into her job with Episcopal, but she already has the skills of a seasoned veteran. She’s positive, caring, has a great connection with the campers, and leads them throughout the day in activities, games, and icebreakers. And if campers come home singing a new cheer or two, that’s because Tyniyah taught it to them: she was a cheerleading coach throughout high school, and has brought those skills to her job at ECS.

We’re proud of Tyniyah, and of the work of our Transition Team for helping her find such a good fit at Episcopal Community Services!
