Tremaine Gains  Independence

Tremaine Gains Greater Independence Through Job at Royal Farms

We’re excited to shine a spotlight on Tremaine, who is coming up on his 3-year anniversary at Royal Farms in Georgetown, DE!

This milestone is even more important because the job at Royal Farms is Tremaine’s first in a fully integrated setting. Previously, his work experience had been confined to sheltered workshops and day programs, where people with disabilities are set apart from the general population and often have to work for less than minimum wage. “I’d rather be in the community,” said Tremaine, adding that his independence is very important to him.

Since first starting at Royal Farms, Tremaine has become a beloved presence at the store, and his work ethic has led to an expanding set of responsibilities.

Amy, an Employment Specialist at CIS, told us that he’s gained a great reputation for amazing customer service, his readiness to work, and his “charismatic personality that always shines through.” And we’re not the only ones who’ve recognized Tremaine’s success: he was featured by the Delaware Department of Vocational Rehabilitation because of the standout job he’s doing at work, and because his story is a great emblem of how Delaware DVR and CIS are helping people with disabilities achieve greater independence.

“I’m really excited and honored to be included,” said Tremaine. “I hope that it shows other people that people with disabilities like me can work just like anyone else.”
