A behind-the-scenes but crucial part of our success ensuring “good jobs for all” (this year’s NDEAM theme) is the work of our Benefits Counseling team, led by Angelina Bush.
Benefits Counseling is a specialized service that greatly helps the people we support achieve financial self-sufficiency. Our team of Certified Benefits Counselors will verify and review an individual’s current benefits, provide info on what can happen when that person starts earning income (if they haven’t already), and help them create the highest income possible between work and public benefits. In essence, our Benefits Counselors are like personal financial advisors for our participants, helping them navigate the benefits system and make strong, informed decisions about employment.
Check out this Q & A we did with Angelina, our Assistant Director of Ticket to Work & Benefits. She traces her path from a job at Wawa to her current position at CIS, and shares what a little-seen but important service Benefits Counseling is in helping the people we serve get good jobs while protecting the public benefits they rely on.
Have a great weekend, everyone, and stay tuned next week for more posts celebration National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
