Project Career Launch (PCL) students are certified famous as we have another PCL story to share, this one is PCL interns at Chestnut Hill College! On a recent Tuesday, they were celebrated for the great job they did this year as interns at the college.

5 students were part of this project, and with the help of Drexel, CIS and Chestnut Hill College, students were able to intern in food services, library services, the mail room, and test proctoring! Look at Tamir, who excelled in his internship all year in the food and dining services. His good work did not go unnoticed, and he’ll soon start a full-time position on the college’s dining services team.

“I am excited to continue to work here,” said Tamir. “It was fun, and I learned a lot about preparing sandwiches, salads, and other food items. I got to learn how to cook!”

Chestnut Hill staff have great things to say about the PCL students, and a big kudos to Laura, Associate Director of the college’s Center of Accessibility and Learning Services, who connected PCL students to the internship placements.

Project Career Launch connects high schoolers with disabilities to real-world work experiences, and equips them with the skills they need to transition from school to employment. The interns at Chestnut Hill typically started at 9am and ended at 2pm, with the students being able to explore campus a bit after they finished their internships for the day.  One student, Will, got to intern with test proctoring.

“Even though we should be happy the internship is over, we are not all the way happy to leave,” said Will. “We are happy we are here and will miss everything we learned.”

Project Career Launch helps students to transition smoothly from school to work and the interns at Chestnut Hill College are well on their way! Thank you to Beth Flaugher from CIS for always coordinating great site visits with PCL students, Mike Handelman, Jackie Abrams, Sister Mary Jo, and all the other Chestnut Hill College staff and faculty who made this possible. We hope to see more Project Career Launch Students here next year!
