Project Career Build tours Community College of Philadelphia

Check out these great pics of our Project Career Build (PCB) cohort, who recently had a packed day filled with resume-building and networking! PCB is just one of several school-to-work transition programs led by CIS. These programs help young adults with disabilities prepare for employment once they exit school.

Christina Nicoletti, Manager of Business Development for Transition Services, shared these pics from a recent site visit to Community College of Philadelphia with students from Mastbaum High School. In partnership with PA CareerLink®, students were able to get feedback on their resumes and try hands-on skills assessments to see what type of jobs they might be interested in.

Our transition services focus on assessments and hands-on experience to propel students into a career tailored for them. Typically focusing on junior and senior students, our school-to-work transition programs help prepare our students for the workforce and ignite a sense of independence in them. For our current Project Career Build Students, these core tasks, like resume building, prepare them for job development starting in late Spring.

During the visit to CCP, students met with CCP admission recruiter Virgina Ramirez, who presented a PowerPoint on some of the advantages of attending CCP and an in-depth tour of the college. At the end of the tour, Virginia asked if any of the students had questions, and a spark ignited in one of our students, Wayne.

Wayne mentioned wanting to talk more about their culinary program, and Virginia had something no other tour could offer: Virginia took Wayne to a culinary class that was happening just then, where he got to check out the kitchen and chat wit the professor about some courses he could take. At the end, Wayne said he was definitely interested in applying!!

We appreciate Christina Nicoletti for sharing this remarkable story, and a big thanks to CCP for helping open the door to opportunity for our PCB cohort!
