Participant Spotlight: Arthur Weaves Opportunity from Challenging Circumstances

Arthur works at World Café Live and also runs his own business selling handwoven goods. When World Café temporarily shut its doors due to Covid-19, Arthur found himself unexpectedly jobless. But instead of simply holing up at home, Art has used this opportunity to spend more time in his studio, using his remarkable skills at the loom to create an array of colorful, one-of-a-kind scarves and tea towels.

With the usual batch of summer craft fairs and art shows now canceled, Arthur got innovative and created his own website, and is now listing and selling his products online. Check out his new site to learn more about him, and make sure to browse the selection of intricately-patterned goods for sale, like the scarf and tea towels pictured above.

We are grateful to our partners at the PA Office of Developmental Programs and the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health / Intellectual DisAbility Services. We are so impressed with Arthur’s skill, and proud of the way he’s shaped something positive from a difficult situation.
