Our participants are not only hard workers but also disability advocates and board members. One of our participants, Matthew, was recently appointed to The Down Syndrome Association of Delaware’s Board of Directors at their Annual Meeting!

Matthew is 22 years old and graduated from high school in 2020. After he graduated, Matthew did a year-long internship with Project Search at Christiana Hospital. There, he was able to apply for his dream job as a security guard. In order to be hired, he had to first pass the Maryland State Police security guard test, and he did so with flying colors!

Now Matthew is an officially licensed security guard for Allied Security, and he loves his job!

Outside of work, Matthew is an advocate for people with disabilities and is super involved in his community. He volunteers at a local early childhood center, and in his free time plays a range of sports as part of the Delaware Special Olympics. Excellent job, Matthew, on being appointed to the Down Syndrome Association’s Board of Directions—we wish you the best of luck!
