For our next Disability Employment Awareness Month spotlight, we’re featuring Kareem, who’s become a veteran presence in his job at Home Depot. Kareem was first hired back in 2015, and his longevity there is a testament to the outstanding job he’s done in his role, and to the community he’s built through friendships with his co-workers.

When we stopped in recently, we found him assisting a customer who was looking for a particular item. Just as Kareem finished helping them, another customer approached him with a question about a home improvement project. Kareem assisted them in picking out lumber, then helped them transfer the wood from the shelves to their cart. And just as they were finishing up, yet another customer came up with a question for Kareem!

It was a classic example of the magnetism of expertise, and we marveled as one customer after another sought his help, then went happily on their way. Congrats to Kareem for the impact he’s making in his job, and for his growth from a new employee to a much relied-upon member of the team. This month is all about celebrating the accomplishments of people with disabilities in the workplace, and you can see more stories at cisworks.org/blog.
