CIS knows how to have fun in the sun, both in and out of the office! Check out this 6 ABC Action News story featuring one of our very own Employment Coaches, Jack Cavanaugh. Jack participated in the annual “They Will Surf Again” event in Wildwood, which focuses on people with various disabilities who surf the ocean with the help of some caring volunteers.
Cavanaugh suffered a traumatic brain injury ten years ago, which led to him needing to relearn a number of basic motor skills. He first came to the “They Will Surf Event” using a wheelchair, and loved it so much he returned as both a surfer and a volunteer. Jack now volunteers with the organization to provide the same help he was once receiving.
“They Will Surf Again” travels around the country and is hosted by “Life Rolls On,” a nonprofit that helps individuals recover from life-altering injuries by getting them back on a surfboard, skateboard, or out on the water, and connecting them to community while doing so.
Jack describes the annual “They Will Surf Again” event as “his own personal beach day.” He loves the event, the opportunity to help others, and being surrounded by those who come out to support him.
We’re immensely impressed by Jack, and lucky to have him at CIS.
