Among the frontline dining workers helping welcome customers back to their favorite bars and restaurants, no one does it with as much good spirit as David.
He works on the back-end at Olive Garden, and is known among his co-workers as the Michael Buble of the Dining Team, always singing a song as he works.
Though David favors Mariah Carey and the Backstreet Boys (Carey’s “Hero” is his favorite to sing along to), his own story of making his way in the world is one that might be sung by Springsteen.
David is a long-time food service worker, and he’s built a path to his current role through hard work and a can-do attitude. He got his start on the food service team at Widener University, back in 2016, and worked there four years, honing the tools of his trade.
Just as no Springsteen song ends without some hardship, David was laid off when the pandemic hit. Undeterred, he landed a restaurant role where he expanded his skill set, and eventually transformed that experience into his current role at Olive Garden.
Nearly 8 months in, David loves his new position, is doing great, and doesn’t let a shift go by without a song on his lips. As we wind down National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re celebrating David and all workers with disabilities whose resilience and hard work are helping power the recovery.
