Hit that like button for CIS staff and participants alike, three of whom were featured on a Zoom during a recent EN Essentials Learning Event, part of the Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work program. 🎉🔥
CIS’s own Angelina Bush, Paul Barth, and participant Adrienne (photo 2) were featured on the Zoom, which highlighted Adrienne’s success moving from high school to a full-time office job as a Department Aide at the Philadelphia Airport’s Human Resources Office.
The event’s title was “Connecting the Dots When Serving Youth and Young Adults,” and Adrienne’s path to employment shows the good that comes when the dots are connected. She first got connected to CIS as a high school student through our Project SEARCH program (led by Paul!), where she got hands-on work experience and job prep skills that prepared her for the working world.
Adrienne wanted to work when she graduated high school, but her parents had understandable concerns about how employment might impact her SSI and Medicaid benefits. That’s where Angelina and CIS’s team of Benefits Counselors came in, who showed her that her Medicaid benefits would continue if she got a job and helped her navigate the path to employment at the Philadelphia Airport, where she’s been happily employed ever since.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM), and Adrienne’s story is a great reminder that ensuring Good Jobs for All people with disabilities means connecting the dots to make sure every person has the support that they need to thrive.
Congratulations to Adrienne, Paul, and Angelina, whose teamwork helped Adrienne land a dream job.
