We are truly thrilled to share that this year, three CIS nominees received Brighter Futures Awards from the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services.
The annual ceremony celebrates individuals and organizations whose work has expanded the rights, visibility, and access for people with disAbilities. CIS nominated Dr. Beth Pfeiffer and Amber Davidson of Temple University’s College of Public Health, as well as Larisa Shambaugh and the School District of Philadelphia’s Office of Talent Support Services, in recognition of their outstanding commitment to employ and support people with disabilities.
This year’s ceremony was particularly special, as it marked the 30th year of the Awards. Dr. Pfeiffer and Amber Davidson were honored with a Community Leadership Award for their innovative travel training programs, which help young adults with disabilities exercise choice and move through the world more independently. And Larisa and the District’s Office of Talent Support Services were honored for their efforts to build a workforce across the District that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.
We are humbled and grateful to see our nominees’ work recognized with this honor, and proud to call them partners in our mission to empower people with disabilities through meaningful employment. To learn more about the work of our nominees, check out the program from this year’s awards.
