We were relieved and thankful to see yesterday’s verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin. We hope that it can bring some measure of peace and healing to George Floyd’s family, and all those who are grieving his death.
While we are glad to see Mr. Chauvin held accountable for his actions, we recognize there is much work to be done to combat and undo the large-scale systemic racism and injustice that persists. As an organization that for 30 years has worked to imagine and enact more inclusive, caring, and supportive communities, we look forward to continuing to play a part in that effort.
Today, as ever, we support all who are fighting for alternative approaches to community safety that center holistic community health through investment in resources, education, and social services. May yesterday’s verdict bring some healing and peace.
