Is summer over? Does it have to be? Even if we grudgingly admit that it is, it’s not too late to celebrate Julia, one of our unsung summer heroes. Beginning in May, she worked as a camp counselor at the Haverford YMCA, where she helped the campers have a memorable summer full of their favorite camp activities.

Julia loves working with kids, and she made this job possible for herself by building on previous work experience: from 2017 to 2021, she spent her summers working in a similar role at a Montgomery County Head Start program. Her hard work paid off when she was offered the job at the Haverford Y, and she let us know she had a fun and meaningful summer connecting with her campers.

We are really proud of Julia for her hard work, and for the energy and enthusiasm she brought to camp with her each day. For more stories of how CIS works for people with disabilities, head to CISworks.org!
