Alexis Celebrates One Year at Holy Family!

Take a second to congratulate Alexis on his one-year anniversary working at Holy Family University! Alexis first started as a dishwasher in September 2021 and flourished. Within the last year, his role expanded to general cleaning and customer service work in the cafeteria. He was delighted to take on the new tasks and is known to the students as a kind and friendly employee.

With the money he’s earning, Alexis has been able to expand his independence into his residential life and is learning how to provide for himself. He’s used his income to purchase items he enjoys, like decorations for his room, furniture, and even a brand-new phone. He’s setting financial goals for himself and plans to save up enough money to comfortably order a Netflix subscription.

Alexis’s story exemplifies the independence you can achieve through hard work and the benefits of a person-centered approach to providing support. He began his job at full coverage. and after about 2 months we began the fading process. Alexis had concerns over fading but felt empowered knowing that all decisions about it were entirely in his court. A year into his job, he now receives just one hour of support per week in a workweek consisting of over 20 hours. He also has great friends and natural supports at work, like Jasmine and Miss Hollywood, who told us what a great job he’s doing.

Big thanks to CIS’s James Senger for the great pics and background info, and congratulations to Alexis—we are truly proud of his accomplishments in setting and achieving his goals of independence.
